– Ul-Ji name –
This pattern of Traditional Taekwon-do has an unusual shape (like Z), but is not extremely long with 42 movements.
This Tul was designed by Nam Tae-Hi. He was the ‘right hand’ of Choi Hong-Hi in the early days of Taekwon-do.

Official name
General Ul-Ji Moon Dok, after whom this training form is named, successfully defended Korea against invasions by members of the Tang group.
The number of 42 movements that this exercise form consists of corresponds to the age of the founder of Taekwon-do, Choi Hong Hi, when he created this Tul.
Supplementary
In the decisive ‘Battle of Salsu’, Ul-Ji’s army faced a large overpowering force of Chinese attackers. Ul-Ji developed a strategy of feigned withdrawal and sudden counterattacks, also known as ‘hit and run’. This allowed his army to gain enough time that the rainy season made further fighting impossible, after which the Chinese army retreated.
Learning
This Tul encompasses a large area with techniques involving jumping and moving backwards. There is a wide variety of hand and foot techniques included.
An excellent Tul to demonstrate what high-ranking Taekwondo practitioners have to offer.
