Official meaning
The name Chon-Ji literally means “heaven and earth. This is understood in the East as the beginning of the world and the beginning of human history. The pattern consists of two equal parts; the first part symbolizes Heaven and the second part Earth.

Additional
Chon-Ji is also a lake, located high in the mountains on the border of Korea and China. This lake was the residence of the legendary Dan-Gun (see Dang-Gun Tul), which in Korea is considered the cradle of the empire.
