– Toi-Gye name –
In this seventh Taekwon-do Tul, there are 37 movements.

Official name
The scholar Yi Hwang used Toy-Gye as a pseudonym and was an authority in the field of Neo-Confucianism.
The 37 movements of this Tul refer to his birthplace at the 37th latitude.
The diagram represents ‘scholar’.
Additional
Neo-Confucians did not believe in the ‘supernatural’ and adhered to realism, in short; ‘only what truly exists is important’. Toy-Gye influenced Korean society by reducing the influences of superstition.
Learning
What is special about this Tul is that the Taekwondo-pattern performs six rotations from sitting stance to sitting stance and places a foot down with a stamping motion, while the arms are raised in a W-shape. This requires significant core strength, comparable to executing turning kicks. A ‘preparation exercise’, as it were.
